Editing

What does editing involve?

Most of my clients require a degree of copy-editing. As well as correcting spelling, grammar and punctuation, I can also look at the format and layout, correcting mistakes and making recommendations for changes or re-wording. I review the whole document including images, graphs and other media to ensure accuracy and continuity of style.

Other clients require more detailed analysis of their work. This can include identifying plot holes and inconsistencies, writing up an analysis of chapters/sections, and offering insight into improving the work to obtain a high professional standard.

What I can look at:

  • Spelling mistakes and typos

  • Missing or duplicated words

  • Incorrect word choices

  • Punctuation

  • Grammar, taking into account style and tone

  • Italics and capitalisation

  • Wrong spacing and paragraph layout

  • Images and graphs

  • Headings, chapter titles, captions and page numbers

  • Incorrect facts and links

  • Lack of clarity

  • Plot holes and inconsistencies

I can also:

  • Make recommendations for re-wording or re-working a section

  • Give a detailed breakdown of sections/chapters and notes for improvement

Charges and fees

£8-£20 per 1,000 words, depending on level of correction or consultation required, the level of technical difficulty and the expected timescale for completion. Please note that there is a minimum charge of £30.
